The flexibility and freedom that comes with working from home is fantastic. But do you often get to the end of the day having made excuse after excuse about why there wasn’t time to exercise?
Maybe your to-do list is too long, maybe it’s too hot outside or maybe it’s too cold. I know those excuses and the rest of them all too well. It’s time to stop the excuses and exercise.
I’m not going to wear you down with the reasons why exercise is important. If you are like me not only do you know all those reasons but you want your clothes to fit better, you want the energy that comes from being fit and you want to have more confidence when someone is snapping a photo that might show up on Facebook or Instagram.
We’ve all heard the advice. Get moving. Even just 10 minutes of walking is better than nothing.
So Just Get Moving
One day, in a random moment of inspiration, I decided to ignore all my excuses. At 11:20 am I closed my laptop and put on walking shoes. I turned on my favorite podcast and walked out my front door in my yoga pants and t-shirt.
Not only did my business not come crashing down or my to-do list double while I was gone for those 30 minutes, but I was so immersed in the podcast I didn’t want the walk to end.
Did I feel out of shape and a little uncomfortable? Yes. But I did again the next day and the next.
Then I missed a couple of days and instead of letting that turn into a week I put my walking shoes on again and went for a walk. And you can too!
It doesn’t have to be every day but make yourself a goal to walk or do some kind of exercise three times a week. Taking care of you is part of taking care of your business.
Excuses Be Gone!
To keep myself going on days it’s raining, or the weather isn’t just right, I’m trying out 15 – 20 minute home exercise routines. I might even try a yoga class eventually but I’ve got to admit I’m more a Pilates girl then a yoga girl.
I’m also the kind of person who needs to be told exactly what to do when I exercise. If it’s left up to me to direct the exercises routine I’m pretty much done after 100 crunches. If that sounds like you too, check Pop Sugar Fitness on YouTube, It’s a great place to start.
Conclusion
Don’t let your hard-earned flexibility and freedom gather dust. Stop making excuses and exercise 30 minutes a day at least three days a week.
You don’t need fancy exercise clothes, the yoga pants you work in are probably meant for exercise anyhow!
Schedule it, use it as a reward for finishing a project or exercise at lunchtime. Just get moving.
